Ravalli County Museum & Historical Society – Collections Care Project

The Ravalli County Museum needed new archival storage to continue safeguarding artifacts that illustrate the history of the Bitterroot Valley. Such artifacts include Salish Indian objects, Ernst Peterson’s photograph collections, an extensive military collection, items relating to the early 20th century apple boom, and irrigation tools that contribute to the valley’s agricultural history.
The museum’s Collections Care Project in 2017 provided proper archival storage for new and existing artifacts. New storage methods keep the artifacts from deteriorating or accumulating dust as they had before. The Montana History Foundation is thrilled to help the Ravalli County Museum tell the Bitterroot Valley’s ongoing historical and cultural story by protecting the artifacts that tell that story.
