Nine Mile Community Center – Stark School House

The Stark Schoolhouse is a memorial to the hearty miners, loggers and settlers who inhabited western Montana and the Nine Mile Valley in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The Stark School was an outgrowth of growing interest and 20th century advances in public education, reflecting the importance of education to emergent communities, as well as the early settlement of this valley.

The Nine Mile Community Center used MHF funds to install storm windows on the Stark Schoolhouse. The new storm windows allowed the Nine Mile community to use the schoolhouse throughout the year by conserving heat and maintaining the building’s integrity. The Stark Schoolhouse is used for community events, potlucks and educational events.
