Town of Virginia City – Cemetery Sites Assessment Project

Using MHF funds, the Town of Virginia City, in cooperation with the Montana Historical Society and faculty and students from the University Of Montana Department Of Anthropology, undertook a comprehensive assessment of all known and potential cemetery sites and resources within the platted Virginia City town site. Collected field data was assembled in a report of findings and recommendations and will guide future preservation and planning efforts.

Developing a comprehensive record of the unique qualities and characteristics of the Virginia City Cemetery sites provided an improved understanding of present and future conservation priorities in addition to providing an updated public record and reference assembly.
