Havre/Hill County Historic Preservation Commission-Fort Assinniboine

In 1984, Fort Assinniboine was placed on the National Register of Historic Places; however, it was only recognized at the local and state levels. Havre-Hill County Historic Preservation Commission used MHF funds to rewrite its nomination to attain national recognition for Fort Assinniboine.

The grant project with MHF consisted of researching and documenting cultural and archeological resources, defining a land boundary, developing maps and research areas, updating findings from the past 30 years, and developing cohesive statements that detail the fort’s historic significance.
