Friends of the Historic Adams Hotel – Foundation/Basement Repair

The historic Adams Hotel in Lavina needed a structural engineer to identify devastating superstructural weaknesses in the hotel. The History Foundation funded the Friends of the Adams Hotel to hire the engineer, who located areas that require temporary bracing, found any areas of rot in the foundation beams, and developed a foundation underpinning plan and new foundation system. This work provided a document to take to contractors, who will begin structural work on the hotel.

The Adams Hotel is important not only to Lavina, but also to the history of the state and the country. The hotel, which is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places, was built during an economic boom in Montana when many railroads crossed the state. Lavina was a supply depot and a center point for the distribution of goods coming from Fort Benton by stage.
