Crow Language Consortium – Crow Dictionary

The Crow language has been defined as “definitely endangered.” The History Foundation funded the Crow Language Consortium to produce a Crow language dictionary. There has been a nearly 60% decline in school-age speakers of Crow between 1969 and 2002, and students tend to know pieces of the Crow language instead of speaking it fluently.

The dictionary has approximately 800 pages and has sections in both Crow-English and English-Crow, as well as practical example sentences. The project included checking a database and recordings of Crow words for accuracy, building the Crow text corpus, formatting and editing the dictionary. CLC’s dictionary project created the most extensive vocabulary set ever preserved of the Crow language.
