Use of canine forensics in Virginia City to be featured in historic preservation workshop

A novel use for canines in the fields of archaeology and forensics could prove that dog is man’s best friend not only in life -- but also in death.

The use of forensic canines was the focus of a 2016 project in Virginia City in which a group of dogs from the California-based Institute of Canine Forensics helped researchers confirm the location of several historic cemeteries, including an unmarked Hebrew cemetery and one on Boot Hill, whose inhabitants date as far back as the town’s founding in the 1860s.
