Free Talk Explores Chinese History in Montana Finlen Hotel

BUTTE, Mont. — The Foundation for Montana History is partnering with the Mai Wah Museum for a free book talk at the Finlen Hotel in Butte.

The talk will discuss the history of the Chinese experience in Montana.

It features award-winning author Mark Johnson, his son, Thomas Johnson, and artist Rich Lee.

The trio is working on a project on the topic.

The Foundation for Montana History is Hosting a Free Talk on the Illustrated History of the Chinese Experience in Montana on Sunday, September 8 at 4:00pm

The Foundation for Montana History, in partnership with Mai Wah Museum, is hosting a free book talk at the Finlen Hotel in Butte.

Featuring award winning author Mark Johnson (Middle Kingdom Under the Big Sky), son Thomas Johnson, and artist Rich Lee, this event will cover the history of the Chinese experience in Montana and give a special preview of the trio’s upcoming project on the same topic.

“This collaboration brings the most current research on Montana’s historic Chinese communities to light in innovative ways that can be appreciated by a new audience,” says author Mark Johnson. “Rich Lee’s illustrations breathe life into archival sources from Montana’s distant past making these stories jump off the page.”

Participants will be treated to refreshments and conversation following the talk in the Copper Bowl room at the Finlen Hotel. This event is free and open to the public.

Attendees can also purchase signed copies of Johnson’s book and sponsor a page of this upcoming project following the hour long talk
