Tom Miner Basin School

Andrew and Julianne Anderson appealed to the Montana History Foundation for a grant to restore the Tom Miner Basin one-room schoolhouse. The school is the most visible local landmark in Emigrant, Montana, making it a source of pride for locals and a great space for community events and meetings. By restoring this historic school, Andrew and Julianne are promoting the community’s historical consciousness and appreciation.

MHF grant money was used to re-shingle the school’s cedar shingle roof and to apply a high quality mortar adhesive in the cracks between the exterior rocks. This project restored the building’s stability and prevented further moisture penetration in the exterior walls.
