Museum of Mountain Flying – Piper Cub Restoration

The Museum of Mountain Flying purchased a historic 1941 J3 Piper Cub that was used during World War II at Missoula’s Hale Field to train Army pilots. The plane was in its original condition. In order to fly again, the plane needed to be recovered and have the engine restored. With the help of volunteers who had experience with restoration, the plane is now restored and on permanent display in the 18,500 square-foot museum hangar. Using MHF funds, the Museum of Mountain Flying was able to acquire supplies and restore the engine.

The Piper Cub is a great addition to the museum’s collection of original Johnson Flying Service aircraft. The plane will make occasional flights but will mainly be on display in the hangar.
