Montana Heritage Commission – Nevada City Music Machine Restoration

A bass drum, a snare drum, xylophones, baroque style decor, 65 keys, and 200 pipes make up the Gavioli organ, which is located in the Nevada City Music Hall. The Gavioli was built circa 1905 and is one of the larger and nicer instruments in the Bovey collection. The music machine is played by thousands of tourists every summer.

The History Foundation funded the Montana Heritage Commission to hire a contractor to repair the organ. The pipes were taken out, the drums were repaired, a crack in the pipe chest was repaired, and a new roll was installed and tuned.
