Friends of Fort Owen – Preservation of the Historic East Barracks Adobe Wall

A grant for The Friends of Fort Owen will work on the deteriorating east wall of the East Barracks. The 4-part plan consists of analyzing the adobe bricks, sourcing the clay from which they were made, developing preservation methodology, and hosting a workshop for the training of professionals and local community in adobe preservation. The East Barracks was constructed ca. 1857, making it irreplacable to Montana history and crucial that the issues be addressed as soon as possible.
