Fort Assinniboine Preservation Association
Fort Assinniboine was one of the largest military forts in the United States at its peak, and was used as a barrier to prevent attacks from the North. Since the days of military service ended, the buildings have been used for a variety of purposes, but they are in a state of deterioration. Using MHF funds, the Hill County Preservation Commission repaired the porch of one stable, that was damaged in a winter storm, which was once used for cavalry.
The Fort was placed on the National Register of Historic Places and is used for educational tours. It plays an important role in the community of Havre as a symbol of the Wild West.
