Carter County Museum – Collections Rehousing at Museum

Carter County Museum collects many geological wonders, but for those specimens to remain in Montana, the museum needs funding for a training workshop and volunteer program. Carter County Museum collects fossils from the area surrounding Carter County and across southeastern Montana. The fossils are on exhibit in museums around the world, such as the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. For the Carter County Museum to keep these geological artifacts, the museum must adequately care for and display specimens.

The History Foundation funded the museum to develop a training workshop and volunteer program which will allow the museum to increase safe access of its collections to visiting researchers, institutions, and the general public. With funding from The History Foundation, the Carter County Museum can keep and adequately care for the treasured fossils from Hell Creek, Pierre Shale, Fort Union, and more!
