Big Elk School

The Big Elk Schoolhouse served the community of Two Dot, Montana for many years, but the time came when it was retired as a schoolhouse. Once it was closed it became a monument to the past and a connection to the land. The owners of Big Elk School applied for funding for restoration and stabilization work on the structure. Using MHF funds, the building was raised, a new foundation was poured and the roof was replaced.

The repairs stayed true to historic design and preserved the character of the building. The school will now be used as an educational tool about historic schoolhouses … including teaching about the benefits of using weed eating goats!
